Hello, I’m Ari, half of the dynamic duo behind ChillSzn. As a passionate food enthusiast, my goal is to capture every delectable moment of my gastronomic adventures around the globe. Welcome to ChillSzn’s Gastronomic Journeys! You know the old adage, ‘when in Rome, do as the Romans do’? Well, I firmly believe in immersing oneself in the customs and flavors of the places we visit, be it a bustling city or a distant country.

I am thrilled to share my journey through diverse cuisines, delving into the captivating world of food etiquette. For instance, take my time in Madrid, Spain, where, despite the year-long stay, I never had the chance to try paella, given its strong association with Valencia. It’s intriguing to learn that Valencia boasts two original versions of the dish: the Paella Valenciana with its traditional use of rabbit or duck, and the seafood paella. I discovered that it’s customary to savor it during lunchtime, much like the unspoken rule of refraining from ordering a cappuccino after 12 pm in Italy. Uncovering these cultural nuances has enriched my travel experiences, allowing me to deeply appreciate the customs, traditions, and history of the places I visit.

My passion for food stems from my childhood, where I was raised in a small town in central California, with limited dining options. As I grew older, my fascination with diverse cuisines led me to cities like San Jose and San Francisco, where I explored various culinary delights. A pivotal moment was my experience at the Spanish restaurant, Picaro, in San Francisco, where I learned the communal aspect of sharing tapas, fostering connections over a shared meal, a departure from the individualized American dining experience.

 

For me, the act of choosing what to eat provides a sense of control in a world filled with limited choices. This passion has fueled my mission to encourage people to embrace new culinary experiences, whether they’re exploring new destinations or enjoying the flavors in their own hometowns. Through this blog, I aim to share:

Personal stories of cultural immersion that have broadened my understanding of local customs and traditions, particularly those related to food, emphasizing the significance of such experiences in connecting with the essence of a place.

– The significance of local ingredients and flavors, as I continue to discover unique and indigenous elements that define the soul of various cuisines, illustrating how these ingredients contribute to the authenticity and distinctiveness of the dishes I encounter.
